Clarifiers are used for settling solids out of a wastewater stream. They can be used on the water without any chemical treatment – natural settling – or the water can be treated with coagulant and polymer to achieve a faster settling rate. Clarifiers can be either round with a conical base or rectangular in shape. Baldwin fabricate stainless steel clarifiers that are ready to transport to site for ease of installation and integration into a wider treatment system.

Baldwin Industrial Systems also use the clarifier design as a combined reaction tank and clarifier when the situation allows. This can minimise the equipment needed to address the customer treatment requirements.

Clarifiers can be utilised as part a total treatment system which may involve other equipment such as Coalescing Plate SeparatorsDAFOil Skimmers or Filtration systems.

How does a clarifier work?

The clarifier works by allowing the bigger and heavier particles to sink to the bottom. The particles subsequently settle at the bottom of the tank, forming sludge that must be removed and disposed of on a regular basis. After that, the clarified water goes through a few additional stages before being transferred for storage and usage.

What type of routine maintenance is needed for a clarifier?

A clarifier requires very little maintenance. The clarifier will only need to be cleaned once in a while by emptying it and hosing out any remaining sludge at the plate packs.

Will a clarifier remove grease and oil?

Before sending a waste stream to the clarifier, it’s important to remove oil and grease.

How do I know if a clarifier is right for my operation?

This is dependent on a number of variables, including budget, location, flow rates, and the composition of wastewater. Get in touch with us at (02) 4954 0440 and we will advise you on the best system for you.
